National Diploma in Animal Management
2009-2011

Upon finishing high school I attended Merrist Wood College in Guildford, completing my National Diploma in Animal Management. This comprised of practical learning, with each term being spent on a different animal unit - kennels/cattery, aviary, exotics, farmyard and small mammals with grading done by our level of care. Our main principal was to follow the Animal Welfare Act 2006.

Foundation Degree in Animal Behaviour & Welfare
2011-2013

I then continued on to the Foundation Degree in Animal Behaviour & Welfare, which was a much more classroom based course. The course comprised of looking into the details of animal laws & legislation, how they come into affect and where.

Work experience within the animal industry was a huge part of both courses, with at least 6 weeks worth of voluntary experience required per academic year. This was a perfect opportunity to gain knowledge and experience, while finding out what career path I wanted to continue on. Over the years I was lucky enough to volunteer at many different places including veterinary practices, dog groomers, pet shops, zoo’s, wildlife rescue, farms and a game reserve in South Africa!
